Lately…

December 31st, 2007

So yeah.  Lots of stuff has happened lately.  Projects, marathon essays, NHS inductions (ok so there was only one), drumline starting-ups, christmases (again, only one), and a poop-load of other happenings.  So let’s just skip to the break.

It was Christmas!  Got some good stuff, mainly an external harddrive (so I can actually backup my 3+ GB of pictures) and a new bracelet.  Christmasmoviewatch Day was fun at Josh’s, as was Vince’s birthday party at Vince’s.

And now it’s new-years!  I chose not to hang with the usual crowd this year because I didn’t want to leave my brother home by himself, which would suck.  My new year’s resolution is 1280×1024… I’m kidding.  That was a terrible joke.

It’s not really a new year’s resolution, it’s more of a 30 day challenge.  I, too, am trying to break my dependence on AIM, except I’m trying to cut it out of my life completely for that time period.  I’ll be signed in for the first five with an explanation away message up, but I’ll log off at that point until February 1st.  “Why,” you ask?  Because I’m staying up much too late on a fairly consistent basis talking to people about, well, nothing.  I’ll get alot more work done (in theory, that is) and I’ll have alot more energy because I’ll get more sleep.  If you need me, you can email me, call me, or text me.  Facebook will be used about as much as I use it now (so probably 20 minutes/day max).

Other than that, I guess that’s all that’s really new.  School is starting again in less than 36 hours (wow) and I’ve hardly done any homework, so you can guess what I’m doing all day tomorrow.  I’m considering switching to a ____.wordpress.com blog as well, mainly because I can’t figure out how to upload a new theme to this blog, and because I already have an account there, and am considering using it for a site for the drumline.  It’ll just be easier, pretty much.

All in all, happy new year everyone!  May it be a safe, happy, and healthy one for you and your loved ones.

Day of “Radio Silence”

December 4th, 2007

Sorry for the bad title, but I’m not really sure what else to call it.

Wednesday, Dec. 5 is going to be my day of “radio silence.” My phone will be off (on walkman mode so I can still use the clock) until 5:15 at the earliest. I won’t check my email until at least 6:00. I won’t be using AIM at all until Thursday. (This message will remain as my away message until my router automatically disconnects me. I am unsure as to when that happens exactly, so play that it by ear. The fact that this message is up DOES NOT mean that I am actually online/home/near my computer. It is only here to tell you why I won’t respond).

I’m trying to see how much time I waste on communications devices (checking email, staying logged into AIM, checking for texts, etc.) versus how much time I actually use them (reading emails, talking to people, reading texts, etc.) If you need me, you’ll need to either find me and talk to me in person or call someone I’m with, excluding some extreme circumstances (which I’d rather not consider).

Depending on how this goes, I may “schedule” more of these for myself. Here’s hoping for the best. Read the rest of this entry »

woah.

December 2nd, 2007

I haven’t updated in a long time. I’ll get around to it later in the month I guess, but to hold you over…

It’s almost ecksmiss time. And that means people get angry over the most petty things. Aren’t the holidays great?

Search

November 15th, 2007

The search of “petty reasoning over meaningful decisions and thoughtful evaluation” is here.  Also known as the search of prom date is here.  Currently, I’m clueless.  Especially because everything is constantly changing with other people (A is now dating B, but hates C, because she used to date A but still likes A, and because she now likes D, B’s other best friend, ad nauseum).  Any suggestions?  I’ll do the same for anyone else if you ask (not that my advice would be very useful anyway, but I guess it’s the thought that counts, right?).

Truer Words 2

November 3rd, 2007

Might be easier to find these things than I thought.

“Real revolution begins at learning. If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention.” -Tim McIlrath

“The names of radicals are rarely etched in marble, but burn eternally in the hearts of man” -Saul Alinsky

Found them under the disc in Rise Against’s CD The Sufferer & the Witness

Truer Words…

October 29th, 2007

were never spoken. This may become a new feature, but I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to come up with cool/good/insightful quotes.

The fair, in nature and humanity, inevitably submits to the dominion of the foul.

Anyway, this one’s from the literature criticism books from English, surprisingly enough. Specifically, from the section about the application of the formalistic approach to “Hamlet.”

Senior Superlatives

October 25th, 2007

vote for sean for best looking guy.  PFFT.  Seriously, don’t waste your vote.

I really don’t care actually.  Vote for whomever (whoever? No I think it’s whomever) you’d like.

Real update is coming this Sunday.  Sorry, fell behind a lil.

Something Useful

October 17th, 2007

I’d like to do something useful with my site, but I’m not really sure what.  Music has been done.  Reviews have been done.  Twice.  I don’t have any trips to recap.  I have no art to post.  Anything I find is usually found on Digg, and if it’s not it’s very rare, so I can’t make a feature out of it.  My weekly b****-fest (aka TWA) is starting to get stale after just a few entries.  If anyone has a suggestion, please tell me.

A Combination of Things (9/30-10/15)

October 15th, 2007

Whoah it’s definitely been a long time since I’ve updated this. So that’s what I’m doing. I’m going to skip the week of 9/30 since I partially forget what happened then, I’m starting with last weekend. Read the rest of this entry »

TWA (9/30-10/6)

September 30th, 2007

First off, weekend recap.

Friday - Football game at CB South. Final - Something along the lines of 34-14. Show was ok.

Saturday - Well. Let’s start off with an explanation of the new “circuit” we perform in. Numeric scores aren’t really announced (they’re out of 140, so they’re “meaningless,” as someone put it), and we’re given a rating. In order of worst-best, they are “Good,” “Very Good,” “Excellent,” “Outstanding,” and “Superior.” The only other schools in this “circuit” (the “festival”circuit”) are CR North/South, Neshaminy, Pennridge, Pennsbury (who is now taught by nearly all of Bensalem’s old directors/techs), William Tennent, and Montgomery (no relation to the flea market). There may have been another school or two, but I forget.

So anyway, the show was pretty bad. It was real disorganized (poor communication and such). Bensalem was pretty much the smallest band there, next to Tennent. Our Directors decided to change circuits because the old one was “unfair.” Saturday, we received a rating of “Very good,” while about 2/3 of the other groups got “superior” and the other 1/3 got “excellent.” Going on a 100 point system, I figure Superior is >90, Outstanding >80, etc, so probably in the 60’s for us this week. Fun stuff.

Sunday - OAFK reading, college apps, this.
